Improve mountain biking opportunities in the Rim Country through trailwork, fundraising, and advocacy.
RCMBA expands mountain biking opportunities in Rim Country through trail building, fundraising, and advocacy. In partnership with the Tonto National Forest, the organization has helped develop the National Historic Highline Trail and the Boulders Area Trail System (BATS). The 63-mile Highline Trail has undergone major renovations over the past six years, with RCMBA continuing to support maintenance and funding. BATS has grown from informal social trails into a developing destination system, with 8 miles adopted and 15 miles planned. RCMBA has also secured Arizona State Parks grants to fund signage and trail improvements.
Bolster the local mountain bike community through group rides and events.
RCMBA builds a strong mountain biking community through events, group rides, and local engagement. Its signature event, the Highline Hold’em, is an annual mountain bike poker run that attracts riders from across Arizona while raising funds and awareness for the Highline Trail. In addition, RCMBA hosts weekly group rides, organizes travel rides, and leads community trail and informational events. These efforts create opportunities for riders of all levels to connect, ride together, and stay involved in the local trail system.
Develop young riders by partnering with local youth organizations.
RCMBA invests in youth by creating opportunities for young riders to engage with mountain biking. Members lead after-school bike clubs, support the Rim Country Middle School Outdoor Adventure Club, and helped establish a local NICA team. The organization has also partnered with Riding for Focus and Project Bike Tech to bring biking and repair education into local schools. In 2025, RCMBA worked with Wheel Fun and the Trek Foundation to build the Longhorn Bike Park at Rim Country Middle School—the first bike skills park in Eastern Arizona—now open to the public outside school hours.

The Highline Hold’em Mountain Bike Poker Run is Rim Country’s signature mountain biking event, bringing riders together for a fun, community-driven day on the iconic National Historic Highline Trail. Participants ride a 9-mile section of this scenic 63-mile trail, collecting cards at designated stops to build their best poker hand. More than just a ride, the event directly supports the Highline Restoration Initiative, a long-term effort to rehabilitate, maintain, and preserve this historic trail for future generations. Over the past several years, the initiative has focused on restoring tread, improving drainage, and enhancing sustainability across the trail’s diverse terrain. RCMBA is proud to announce that all 63 miles of the Highline Trail have now been fully restored, creating a one-of-a-kind mountain biking destination. The Highline Trail itself offers a unique ride, blending intermediate singletrack with sweeping forest views and rich Arizona history.
